Chamonix

By Car
Your options and possibilities will be vastly increased around Chamonix if you have the use of a car. If you are bringing one in winter remember that snow chains are obligatory (as well as occasionally very useful) If you know the size of your tyres they are much cheaper to buy in the local supermarkets and service stations than in the UK.

By Bus

There are two main bus companies, SAT and Chamonix Bus. SAT will take you to Geneva, Courmayeur and further afield. It is a town-to-town service. Chamonix Bus works the valley’s tourist destinations frequently with a series of interconnecting routes. In winter they interlink the ski areas including les Houches. In summer the main villages and lifts. Use is free if you can show a lift pass. The ski bus stops right outside the apartment in winter.

By Train

The Chamonix valley contains a metro service from St Gervais les Bains to Martigny. It’s a stopping service that is extremely picturesque. It links with the Montenvers railway and the Tramway du Mont Blanc - a famous old narrow gauge tram that was originally intended to go to the summit of Mont Blanc. Please note that it will drop you off in the centre of town where you will need to walk or take a bus to the apartment. If doing this in the winter our recommendation is to take some shoes with you and carry then in a small rucsac during your activities.
