Chamonix needs little introduction. A traditional destination for the British since Victorian days its reputation is renowned across the world.
It boasts both Western Europe’s largest and fastest flowing glaciers, both accessible from the town itself, as well as its highest peak in Mont Blanc. Europe’s second highest cable car runs from close to the centre of town to the Aiguille du Midi for the closest non-climbing access to Mont Blanc.
The Montenvers railway also runs from the centre of town on a high scenic route to the Mer de Glace or Sea of Ice with its spectacular views of the glacier, mountain spires and ice caves.of the Mont Blanc Massif.
Chamonix is situated on the borders of both Italy and Switzerland, providing rapid and scenic access to these two beautiful countries.
